Techniques applicable to a system of 10 or 100 sensors do not apply to a system of 1000 or 1000000 sensors. Issues at stake include:
  • synchronization
  • speed
  • bandwidth
  • data processing
  • data storage
  • failure modes

Large sensor systems will require self-organization at each of these levels.
